Glue lamination

Glue lamination, sometimes called thermal lamination, involves bonding materials together using a thermoplastic film or an adhesive activated by heat. The technique makes it possible to combine many different materials in multiple layers — sometimes up to seven or more — to create unique, customer-specific properties.

When is glue lamination the best choice?

Glue lamination is used when flame lamination is not possible, for example when laminating felt, textiles or materials that cannot withstand an open flame. It is also the first choice when a solution requires several different layers in the same laminate, where each layer contributes its own function. The technique offers great freedom in material selection and enables tailored effects.

Common applications

  • Space and defence
  • Vibration dampening in tools and machinery
  • Protective products such as saw guards and absorbents
  • Specialist solutions for healthcare and assistive devices

Which materials are used?

Almost all materials can be combined through glue lamination. Examples:

  • Felt
  • Textiles
  • Foam that cannot be flame laminated
  • Plastic films and thin sheets
  • Natural materials

Quality and material expertise

Jirotex’s strength lies in the combination of experience and in-depth knowledge of different materials.
