Glue lamination, sometimes called thermal lamination, involves bonding materials together using a thermoplastic film or an adhesive activated by heat. The technique makes it possible to combine many different materials in multiple layers — sometimes up to seven or more — to create unique, customer-specific properties.
Glue lamination is used when flame lamination is not possible, for example when laminating felt, textiles or materials that cannot withstand an open flame. It is also the first choice when a solution requires several different layers in the same laminate, where each layer contributes its own function. The technique offers great freedom in material selection and enables tailored effects.
Almost all materials can be combined through glue lamination. Examples:
Flexible – works with many different materials and layers
Multi-layer solutions – several layers can be laminated simultaneously to build multiple functions into one product
Customer-unique – can be designed for specific effects and functions
High-volume capability – even though the process is slower than flame lamination
Jirotex’s strength lies in the combination of experience and in-depth knowledge of different materials. Glue lamination is not just about fusing layers together, but about understanding how different materials interact to achieve the right effect. This is why we can deliver solutions to industries where requirements are at their highest.
From automotive and furniture to space, defence, construction and medical.
Acoustics, vibration dampening, absorption, increased service life, protection and comfort.
Flame lamination is faster and cheaper but requires polyurethane foam. Glue lamination is slower but works with more materials and enables more unique solutions.
